MOM Senior Worker Grant Runs Through 2027 – How Part-Time Re-employment Supports Older Employees

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has confirmed that the Part-Time Re-employment Grant (PTRG) Singapore will continue for another two years, running until 31 December 2027. For employers managing an ageing workforce, this remains one of the most practical government grants still available. The extension recognises a simple reality — not every older worker wants to stop working entirely, and not every company can retain seniors on full-time hours. The PTRG helps both sides meet halfway, without employers facing excessive cost pressure.

What Is the Part-Time Re-employment Grant?

Launched in 2020, the Part-Time Re-employment Grant Singapore was created to help employers retain senior workers through part-time roles or flexible work arrangements. Many older employees prefer shorter working days, fewer days per week, or adjusted schedules during re-employment. Rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all model, this grant provides employers with financial support to design roles that make sense for both the business and the worker. The approach is simple — retain experienced staff, adjust working hours, and receive government support.

How Much Support Do Employers Receive?

Employers receive S$2,500 for each senior worker aged 60 and above under this MOM grant. Each company can claim up to S$125,000, which is particularly meaningful for SMEs managing tight labour conditions. Since the scheme began, more than 7,500 employers have used the grant, benefiting over 65,000 senior workers. In total, more than S$92 million has already been disbursed. These figures clearly explain why the grant has been extended again — demand remains strong and relevant.

Who Can Apply for PTRG in Singapore?

Any organisation that is registered or incorporated in Singapore can apply for the PTRG. This includes private companies, societies, charities, and Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs). A key condition is often overlooked: at the point of application and claim, the employer must have at least one resident worker aged 60 or above. If this requirement is not met, the application will not be approved.

How PTRG Fits Into Singapore’s Senior Employment Strategy

The Part-Time Re-employment Grant works alongside several other senior employment initiatives. These include the Senior Employment Credit, which provides wage offsets of up to 7% for hiring older workers, the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme that supports training for mature workers, and the Career Conversion Programme by Workforce Singapore. Together, these schemes show a clear policy direction — retirement is no longer the only option, and flexible re-employment is actively encouraged.

What NTUC Has Said About the Extension

The extension has been welcomed by NTUC, with its leadership encouraging employers to make fuller use of the grant. Feedback from unions shows that senior workers have diverse preferences — some wish to remain full-time, while others prefer reduced hours during re-employment. The PTRG allows employers to manage these differences smoothly, without unnecessary workplace friction.

Why the PTRG Still Matters Beyond 2025

Singapore’s workforce continues to age, while labour shortages persist across many sectors. Senior workers offer experience, institutional knowledge, and workplace stability that are difficult to replace. Keeping them employed under flexible arrangements benefits both employers and employees. The extension of the Part-Time Re-employment Grant until 2027 gives businesses greater certainty to plan ahead, making it a timely and relevant policy move.
